Introduction

This document was written to provide a guide on using the Terminal Access facilities to the Judicial Information Systems. These facilities are provided using the BlueZone emulation products from Seagull Software. We deliver these products to your PC desktop via a web browser. This document will describe that process along with answers to some of the more commonly asked questions.

First Time Use

Confirm System Requirements

Make certain that your PC has the necessary software and that you have the necessary system permissions that will allow you to install and use the products. That list is found in the System Requirements section of this document.

Internet Explorer (IE) with ActiveX Controls

Access the web page that contains the definitions for the pre-configure sessions. It can be found at http://jisemu.mdcourts.gov/.

You will see a page like this

Figure 1 - Initial Web Page

Select the Judicial Information Systems box to begin using the terminal emulators at JIS.

If you have never loaded the software on your PC, you will be prompted for permission to download and install the Control Module code. Reply Yes. This sample is from Windows 2000 using Internet Explorer 6

Figure 2 Security Warning Dialog

If you also check the box next to Always trust content from Seagull Software Systems Inc. you will avoid having to answer this question in the future.

As the program is being delivered, you will briefly see a screen containing that looks similar to this.

Figure 3 Download Page

The Web-to-Host Control box will show the progress of the download.

Again, if the software has never been used on your computer you may be prompted for permission to install it. Reply yes. If you checked the box Always trust content from Seagull Software Systems Inc. in the previous dialog box, you will not be presented with this box.

After the final download completes, the emulation window will open.

At this point, you login using the mainframe Userid and Password provided to you by JIS and continue working.

When you are finished and have logged out. Press the PF3 key to close this window.

Java Download for non-IE browsers

The process for the Java version is very similar. You select the same website URL as described above for IE. Depending upon the level of Java installed on your system, you will be presented with one of several security warnings for downloading the Control module and the emulation code. The format of the actual warning screens displayed will be different depending upon the level of Java installed on your PC. As in the example above, you allow the code to be installed by answering yes to the questions.

If you do not have a version of Java installed, the default web page will ask for permission to link you to a web site that will download and install Java for you.

Subsequent Use

On future visits, you can use the icon that was placed on your Desktop. It will look like this:

Figure 6 - Bluezone Launch Icon

When you click this icon on a return visit, you will see a web page while the program is starting. It will look like the screen shown earlier in these instructions when the code was downloaded. You may see a box with download status information if there is new code being delivered to your PC. Eventually you will see the Emulation window shown in Figure 5 - Bluezone Mainframe Display.

Tips and Points of Interest

What if the software does not install?

Most causes of unsuccessful installation are found in the configuration of the target PC. Be sure to review the System Requirements to verify that your PC should be able to download and use the software

With some PC configurations, the installation of software is prevented, either by personal PC settings or corporate controls on PC activities. In these cases, you can try to use the Java delivery method. To use the other method, change the last part of the URL in your browser address window from launch_x.htm to launch_j.htm and try again.

What if the desktop icon cannot find the program?

The programs are stored in the TEMP directory on your PC. Some system cleanup utilities will delete the programs. When that happens, the Desktop Icon shortcut will no longer be able to find and start the program. The only solution is to reload the software. See First Time Use above. If those instructions do not work, use the ezClear instructions to clear out the software and try again with the First Time Use instructions.

Unable to establish connection with host.

In most cases, a local firewall or wireless router that is not configured to let connections be established to other machines except through a specific list of Internet ports causes this problem. Check with your local support to confirm that your PC is allowed to make outbound connections to port 4623.

Unable to obtain handle to the Bluezone Registry

This error will occur on a Windows Vista PC using Internet Explorer 7 or higher. Bluezone does not work in the default Protected Mode of IE under Vista. You must either disable the protected mode of IE or place our website into the Trusted Zone list of IE and disable protected mode for your Trusted Zone sites.

For users of the previous dial-up system

This new software follows the keyboard mapping from an original 3270 hardware device more closely than the previous dial-up software. Several of the function key sequences have changed. Many have been converted from two-key sequences to a single keystroke. Below are some of the common 3270 command keys and how they have changed.

A complete key map can be found by selecting the keyboard icon on the toolbar of the emulator. Some of these keys also exist on the toolbar for your use.

Troubleshooting

Before calling the Help Desk, give these items a try.

Online Help

Your first resource is the online help from BlueZone. Follow the Help -> BlueZone Help Topics link from the emulator window show in Figure 5 - Bluezone Mainframe Display.

ezClear

The most efficient way to correct most problems with the programs is to clear the program from your PC and re-install. To do this, select the Bluezone ezClear Utility icon shown in Figure 1 - Initial Web Page.

You will be presented with a choice to either Open or Save the ezClear program. The preferred choice is to Open

Figure 7 - ezClear File Download

When the program runs, it will ask you to confirm that you want to remove all BlueZone components

Figure 8 - BlueZone ezClear Utility

Select Yes to remove the program code. You may check the option to Delete All Internet Cached Files if you wish to remove all of your cached browser files.

These requirements are similar to the Windows XP list shown above with the following exception

When running with IE 7, you may not use the Internet Explorer default Protected Mode with Bluezone. The recommended action is to place our website in the Trusted zones list and to disable Protected Mode for your trusted web sites. These options can be changed at the Tools -> Internet Options -> Security dialog in IE.
